“Talking the to trees”
New sites are becoming more difficult to find and build, putting a premium on maximising the performance – and hence revenue earning capability – of existing sites. Overcoming losses arising from obstacles, such as trees which have grown significantly since the site was first built, is an extremely cost efficient way of improving that performance. We therefore developed a simple but effective way of identifying those sites which would benefit from either a mast height increase or perhaps simple tree management.
We carried out a survey using these techniques for a very large telecommunications company and identified a number of sites with the potential for improvement. Subsequent installation of temporary masts, raising the height of existing antennae, yielded an increase in traffic equivalent to a 20% increase in revenue.
We have dubbed this technique ‘Talking to the Trees’ (TTTT)
